About the Fishery
Galveston Bay fishing — what to expect on the water
The Galveston Bay Complex is the largest estuary on the Texas Gulf Coast and one of the most consistent inshore fisheries in the country. As your Galveston Bay fishing guide, we fish East Bay, West Bay, Trinity Bay, and the back lakes around the Galveston Island shoreline year-round, chasing the species and patterns that are firing on any given day.
Redfish fishing in Galveston Bay
Redfish are the headline species here, and we target them every month of the year. Spring and summer bring big schools of slot reds to the marsh shorelines and shell pads, where they crush topwaters and soft plastics. Fall stages up bull reds along the jetties and passes, and winter sets up clean, low water for sight casting tailing reds in skinny back lakes. Whether you want to soak bait under a popping cork or stalk tailing fish on the fly, our redfish guide Galveston trips are built around the way the fish are eating that week.
Speckled trout fishing
Speckled trout fishing in Galveston is a year-round game with seasonal peaks. Late spring and early summer produce numbers of keeper trout over grass and shell, while fall is prime time for trophy specks — the kind of gator trout that reset everyone's personal best. We wade and drift fish for trout depending on conditions, and we'll match tackle, lures, and live bait to the day.
Seasonal fishing patterns
Galveston Bay fishes differently every month, and knowing those patterns is what separates a guided day from a guess. Spring runs heavy on schooling reds and flounder moving back in. Summer is topwater mornings and slick-calm bait blow-ups. Fall is trophy trout, bull reds at the passes, and the flounder run kicking off. Winter brings the cleanest water of the year and some of the best sight fishing we get. We book trips year-round and adjust the plan to the season.
Family-friendly Galveston Bay fishing trips
We love running family fishing trips in Galveston. The Haynie 25' Magnum has the deck space, dry ride, and seating to keep kids and grandparents comfortable all morning, and we keep the pace and the tackle dialed in for first-timers. All gear, bait, water, and ice are included — show up with sunscreen and a smile.
Beginner anglers welcome
Never been on a bay boat? Never held a rod? That's a great day for us. We coach the cast, set the hook for you if you want, and walk you through reading the water. Some of our best days on the water are with anglers catching their very first redfish or speckled trout.
Galveston fly fishing opportunities
For fly anglers, we also run a 2026 Sabine Skiff — a true technical poling skiff that floats in single digits of water and unlocks the back lakes the bay boat can't reach. Our Galveston fly fishing guide trips are pure visual fishing for tailing redfish on the flats. See the Texas coast fly fishing page for trip details, or pair a bay boat day with a skiff day for the full experience.
