Guadalupe River
Guadalupe River fly fishing
January and February are prime time on the Guadalupe — cold, clear water and some of the best trout fishing in the South.
The River
The South's premier tailwater trout fishery.
Below Canyon Lake, the Guadalupe River runs cold all year, supporting a healthy population of trout. January and February deliver the best conditions — heavy flows, hungry fish, and the river mostly to yourself.
We float from a 13-foot NRS raft, working dry-droppers, streamers, and tight-line rigs depending on the day. Trips are designed for 1–2 anglers and built around your skill level.
- 13' NRS raft float trips
- 1–2 anglers per trip
- All flies provided
- Loaner rods & waders available
- Hot coffee on cold mornings
- Mid-trip riverside lunch (full day)
The Guadalupe
Guadalupe River fly fishing — Texas's premier tailwater
Winter trout fishing in Texas
The stretch of the Guadalupe River below Canyon Lake stays cold all year, which makes it the southernmost wild trout fishery in the United States. January and February are the heart of our season — heavy generation flows from the dam, hungry stocked and holdover rainbows, and the river quiet enough to actually fish. If you've been chasing trout out west and want a Texas option that delivers the same experience, our Guadalupe River fly fishing trips are it.
Guided fly fishing from a 13' NRS raft
We run a 13-foot NRS raft for 1–2 anglers, which lets us cover water that wade fishermen simply can't reach. Dry-droppers in slow seams, streamers on cold, gray days, and tight-line nymph rigs through the deeper runs — we'll match the rig to the conditions and put you in position for the best presentations of the day. As a working Texas fly fishing guide, we know the river top to bottom and rotate through sections based on flows and pressure.
River conditions and timing
Guadalupe trout fishing is largely a function of generation schedule from Canyon Dam. We monitor flows daily and time floats to fish water that's clean, cold, and oxygenated. Most trips run during a single generation window for the best drift conditions. We book months in advance for the prime January and February dates — early reservations are strongly recommended.
Beginner and advanced anglers
Brand new to fly fishing? We'll get you casting comfortably from the raft within the first hour and into fish the same day. Experienced angler chasing a bigger holdover or a more technical drift? We'll push you into the water that produces it. Loaner rods, reels, and waders are available, and all flies are tied for the local water.
Prefer warm-water river trips? Colorado River fly fishing in Texas for bass and sunfish, or our Galveston Bay fishing trips for redfish and trout.
